12-Step RIMC General Info
The 12-Step Recovery Instant Messenger Cooperative is a new service initiative to help connect people in immediate need with grateful recovering 12-Steppers via instant messenger. Those who volunteer agree to basically be "on call" via one or more IM programs whenever they're not otherwise busy/working online. There are no set schedules, nor will there be. The biggest thing right now is to have a large enough volunteer base spread out throughout the various fellowships so there will be a greater likelihood that someone needing support will be able to communicate with an active online person.
As previously stated, this is a new program, only a
few months old. At present there are over two dozen members, mostly alcoholics and addicts. As our volunteer base continues to grow there will be folks representing any number of 12-Step fellowships and languages.
Why only 4 out of 5 stars right now? Currently the site is hosted on GeoCities. This causes some serious limitations in functionality. Depending on community support, after my family is settled from our cross-country move, there is an extremely high likelihood that a formal domain will be purchased. Regardless, once sufficient static bandwidth is obtained, the RIMC will be hosted on our private, very secure server.
